Installing Oriva on Shopify
Why did my Shopify tracking stop seeing purchases?
Since August 26, 2026, Shopify no longer runs scripts added to the order confirmation page for every store outside Shopify Plus (Plus stores lost them a year earlier, on August 28, 2025). A tracking setup built the old way sees every page of your store except the one that matters: the purchase. The only way left to track a purchase from the browser is a Shopify pixel.
Our guide says who is affected and how to check in five minutes.
How do I install Oriva on my Shopify store?
Three things. The script, for your store's pages: Online Store, Themes, "…", Edit code, then paste the Oriva script just before </head> in theme.liquid.
The pixel, for the purchase: Settings, Customer events, Add pixel; name it "Oriva" and paste the code Oriva gives you; under Customer privacy, set Permission to Required and choose Marketing, then Save and Connect.
And the DNS setting, the same as for any site. The details are on the Shopify page.
What does the pixel track?
The pixel installed by hand only tracks the purchase: the steps of Shopify's checkout (cart, shipping, payment) are out of reach. The script placed in the theme follows the pages of your store.
Oriva ties the purchase to the visit before it using the visitor identifier that Shopify's API gives it. If that identifier is missing (cleared cookie, blocked script), the purchase is still recorded with its amount: only its attribution is missing.
What about consent?
Shopify only runs the pixel if the visitor accepted marketing tracking, according to the permission set on the pixel. You have nothing to code for that.
Can a sale be counted twice, especially with Meta?
Not by Oriva: the event identifier comes from the Shopify order number, so refreshing the confirmation page doesn't create a second sale.
Watch out for Meta: if Shopify's official Facebook & Instagram app already sends your purchases to Meta from the server (the "Maximum" setting), don't add a Meta destination in Oriva for that store. You can't choose the identifier the app uses, so nothing guarantees Meta matches the two.
Will my affiliates be paid?
The Shopify pixel doesn't trigger affiliate postbacks. To protect commissions, a postback only goes out for a sale sent by your server. If you pay affiliates, also send your sales through the server API.
