Oriva, a Stape alternative
Published on by the Oriva team.
Stape hosts your Google Tag Manager container on the server side; it's up to you (or your agency) to build and maintain each tag, platform by platform, inside that container. Its Meta Conversions API Gateway goes further for Meta alone, but it copies what your Meta pixel already sends, with the same limit as Meta's one-click Conversions API: a sale the pixel doesn't see, it doesn't see either. Oriva adds one line of code and one form per platform, really sends from your server, and keeps a log of every send. Stape offers a free tier up to 10,000 requests, then $17/month up to 500,000; the Gateway charges $8/month per Meta pixel up to 10 million events. Oriva charges €79/month for 100,000 events, all platforms included. If you already have a server GTM container that runs well for a single platform, you may not need to change.
What is Stape, exactly?
Two separate products, not to be confused:
- Server GTM container hosting. Stape rents and runs the server that executes your Google Tag Manager server-side container. It's infrastructure: Stape configures no tag for you;
- The Meta Conversions API Gateway. A separate, ready-to-use product, but for Meta only: “It works only for Meta. To set up server-side Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, TikTok events API, etc., you must use other methods like server Google Tag Manager.” And it depends on your Meta pixel events to fire (“depends on Meta web pixel events to trigger server-side events”): a sale the pixel doesn't see triggers nothing on the Gateway side either.
Separately, a European offer (Stape Europe): “a 100% European company that does not share your users' data with any US companies”, hosted at Scaleway. Hosting in Europe is therefore not unique to Oriva; at Stape it's a separate offer you have to choose, whereas with Oriva it's the default.
How much does it cost?
| Stape, GTM hosting | Stape, Meta CAPI Gateway | Oriva | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | €0, up to 10,000 requests | None | None |
| First paid tier | $17/month, up to 500,000 requests | $8/month per pixel, up to 10 million events | €79/month (Starter), 100,000 events |
| Next tier | $83/month, up to 5 million requests | $83/month for 100 pixels, up to 200 million events per pixel | €199/month (Pro), 1 million events |
| How many platforms it covers | As many as you configure yourself in GTM | Meta only | Meta, TikTok, Google Ads, ChatGPT Ads and affiliate networks, in the price |
The two Stape prices add up if you want Meta and a GTM container for everything else: it's not one or the other, they're two bricks to stack.
What does it change for you?
- No platform-by-platform configuration. Oriva adds a destination through a form; a GTM container means building each tag, variable and trigger yourself, or paying an agency to do it;
- A real server send, not a copy of the pixel. Stape's Gateway inherits your Meta pixel's gaps, like Meta's own one-click Conversions API. Oriva sends from your server, regardless of what the browser saw;
- Several platforms in one price. At Stape, each platform is either yours to build in GTM, or a separate product to pay for on top (today, only Meta has that product);
- A delivery log. Every send, its response, its failure reason: yours to build in a GTM container, built in at Oriva.
What it doesn't change: consent. Without the visitor's agreement to advertising, neither Stape nor Oriva may send anything to an ad platform.
Who doesn't need Oriva?
- You already have a server GTM container that runs, and a team that maintains it. Switching tools has a real migration cost; Stape does well what it promises (host the container), at a very low infrastructure price.
- You only advertise on Meta, and your pixel loads well. Stape's Meta CAPI Gateway, from $8/month, may be enough: it has the same limit as Meta's one-click API, but it's cheaper than Oriva for that single use.
Oriva is for when you want several platforms without building a GTM container yourself, or when the pixel's limit (a sale it doesn't see) is really costing you conversions.
